Women in Logistics (WIL) Conference 2016

WIL Conference July 2016On June 17th a group of a few men and about 40 women gathered in Solihull for the annual WIL conference headlined “Competency and Talent Development” – “approaches to future talent development, improving team performance and overcoming barriers”.

It was a great day with presentations from: Helen Sandall, Hotel Chocolat; Antoniya Dimitrova & Rachel Lander, UKWA/Westminster Business School; Amy Isherwood, Eddie Stobart; Sandra O’Toole, BIS Henderson; Wendy Manning, Coca-Cola Enterprises

The day finished with a panel discussion on mentoring chaired by Penny Sayce. Together with Danielle Drozd and Kirsten Tisdale I was privileged to be a panellist.

A marvellous day all around and I took away a lot of inspiration from great role models and met a bunch of lovely people too.

GEM Project Conference – June 16th, 2016

The GEM Project Conference took place on June 16th 2016 at ITF Seafarers’ Trust, London.

  • Supporting female seafarers
  • Examinng Seafarer’s welfare
  • Understanding gender issues

It was a wonderful chance to hear about the progress on the Gender Empowerment and Multi-cultural Crew’s (GEM) project from the team at Solent University, invited speakers and to hear comments / experiences from the audience as well.

IMG_2035Often women working in this still male-dominated industry find themselves in a minority and it is important that they are valued for the diversity they can bring to the our industry and valued on an equal basis  – as should be the case for any minority group.

GEM research findings report will be published over the summer and will be available on the Solent website.
