Celebrate International Day of Listening

Do you have something to say?
Do you feel like you are talking and no one is listening?

In our society the biggest communication problem we have is that we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply.
Everyone is talking but only few are listening.

To celebrate International Day of Listening on Thursday I am offering everyone a chance to talk and be listened to for 10 minutes.
No questions, no reply, no exchange.

You will get my full un-interrupted listening, attention and interest.

Interested? Drop me an email on ws@wenfordpeople.com to secure a slot. Look forward to hear what you have to say!

Merchant Navy Day

Since 2000, Merchant Navy Day has honoured the brave men and women who kept our ‘island nation’ afloat during both World Wars, and celebrated our dependence on modern day merchant seafarers who are responsible for 95% of the UK’s imports, including half the food we eat, plenty of the fuel we burn and virtually all the products and goods we take for granted!

For the fourth year running, Seafarers UK is campaigning for the Red Ensign – the UK Merchant Navy’s official flag – to be flown on 3rd September on civic buildings and landmark flagpoles across the UK. Parish, community, town, city, district and borough councils are all invited to take part, along with higher-tier local authorities and governments. For more information click here!

WISTA: Transform your meetings

One way to establish relevant and powerful organisational value for shareholders and stakeholders is to unlock the true potential of everyone in the organisation by creating a good and healthy working environment for staff where they can think and say what they feel.

The reality for many is that organisations are influenced by a few people, lacking behaviour and with little or no space and time to think. Without a diverse culture the organisation loses out on valuable information and experience – the result is a much narrower perspective for creating options and making decisions.

In meetings this is a common scenario. How often have you been to a meeting and wished you were someone else? That it was a waste of time? That your idea was killed by a grimace by someone else. How often are you interrupted? How often is the meeting monopolised by a few people – sometimes speaking just to hear their own voice? How often have you left a meeting feeling that nothing was achieved?

The Thinking Environment® developed by Nancy Kline of Time to Think creates a structure to enable a more diverse and inclusive culture in which better quality thinking is generated for problem solving and different views are welcomed for discussion and decision-making.

Day of the Seafarer

Seafarers wellbeing

2017 and 2018 have seen strong momentum in the industry to address seafarer’s wellbeing, particularly their mental health.

To give further exposure to this important issue, our choice for the 2018 Day of the Seafarer theme is “seafarers’ wellbeing”.

By addressing the issue of seafarers’ wellbeing and particularly mental health, this campaign can inform specific strategies to tackle stress and other issues affecting seafarers’ mental conditions –  and make the tools available more widely known.

The campaign will seek to highlight and showcase best practices and good examples but will also, inevitably, bring out areas of concern and examples of shortcomings.

Sailors’ Society drinks reception at Trinity House.

Last night we attended the annual Sailors’ Society drinks reception at Trinity House – and it was a good opportunity to meet old friends and make some new ones.

The event provided us all with the chance to hear about Sailors’ Society achievements in 2016 and their exciting plans for 2017.
